This MPI-approved eLearning course is designed for individuals responsible for devanning imported sea containers at a Transitional Facility. It provides the essential knowledge and skills to manage biosecurity risks and meet MPI accreditation requirements.

This is the refresher course that must be completed by an Accredited Person (AP) within two years of completing a full course. After completing the course and passing the assessment, you will need to apply to MPI to renew your AP status.

When you have completed the course and passed the online assessment you will:

  • Be awarded a certificate that verifies that you have completed the required training to be an Accredited Person
  • You will need to provide this certificate as part of your application to MPI to be an Accredited Person

What you’ll learn

By the end of this eLearning course, you will be able to:

  • Explain MPI’s role and responsibility in biosecurity
  • Identify biosecurity risks at Transitional Facilities (e.g. pests and diseases)
  • Understand the responsibilities of an Accredited Person
  • Know the key biosecurity laws and regulations
  • Thoroughly inspect a container
  • Know the right actions to take when pests or contamination are found

Course details:

  • Duration: Approximately 4 – 5 hours of self paced learning
  • Assessment: 45-minute MPI online assessment at the end of the course
  • Access: To be completed on PC or Laptop
  • Access period: You must complete the course within 1 month of registration
  • Certificate: Issued on successful completion and shared with MPI

MPI requires all APs to have:

  • A basic understanding of both written and spoken English
  • A basic level of computer literacy
  • Phone and internet access to report container inspections
  • Be a New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or legally entitled to work in NZ with a current valid working visa

To complete this eLearning course, learners also need:

  • A good level of English comprehension
  • Access to a PC or Laptop
